Can Siri send WhatsApp messages? What works and the alternatives

Last updated September 3, 2026

Yes. Siri can send WhatsApp messages, place WhatsApp calls, and read unread WhatsApp messages aloud on iPhone. Enable WhatsApp under Settings, Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri, Apps, WhatsApp, then turn on Use with Siri Requests. Say the app name in the command, such as, "Siri, send a WhatsApp message to Maya saying I'll be there at six."

Siri is best for one immediate message to a clear contact. It can stumble over duplicate names, and reading unread messages depends on WhatsApp's unread state. Scheduling, summarizing a busy chat, tracking replies, and handling a multi-step conversation call for a shortcut, a WhatsApp assistant, or another connected tool.

A practical approach

What to do.

  1. 01

    Enable WhatsApp for Siri

Open iPhone Settings, choose Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri, open Apps, and select WhatsApp. Turn on Use with Siri Requests. Make sure Siri itself is enabled and WhatsApp has the contact access you intend to use. Menu wording can vary slightly by iOS version. This permission lets Siri hand the request to WhatsApp; it does not give Siri a general view of every conversation. Test with your own number or a trusted contact before using it for an important message.

  2. 02

    Name the app and contact

Use a complete command: send a WhatsApp message to the contact, followed by the exact text. Saying WhatsApp prevents Siri from choosing Apple's Messages app. If two contacts share a name or one person has several phone numbers, Siri may ask which record you mean. Clean up duplicate contact cards and add a recognizable relationship or last name. For a group, use the group's exact title and listen carefully when Siri repeats the destination.

  3. 03

    Review before sending

Siri normally repeats the message and asks for confirmation, which is useful when names or dictation are uncertain. Apple also offers an Automatically Send Messages setting under Messaging with Siri for people who prefer to skip that confirmation. Leave confirmation on when messages affect work, travel, money, or a sensitive relationship. If you enable automatic sending, speak the recipient and message slowly and check WhatsApp afterward. Voice transcription can change names, punctuation, dates, and amounts without sounding obviously wrong.

  4. 04

    Fix common failures

If Siri opens WhatsApp without sending, return to the Siri app settings and confirm WhatsApp access. Check Siri's language, the contact's WhatsApp number, your network connection, and WhatsApp's own permissions. Open WhatsApp and send the person a manual message to confirm the account works. WhatsApp notes that opening the app clears its unread badge, so Siri may then report no unread messages to read aloud. Restart the phone after an iOS or WhatsApp update if the integration suddenly stops responding.

  5. 05

Choose an alternative for repeat work

Use Siri for a single message or call that you can state in one breath. Use Shortcuts when you want a repeatable trigger and are willing to maintain the automation. Use an assistant inside WhatsApp when you mainly want answers in that app. For catch-ups, scheduled recaps, reply tracking, or drafts based on several connected accounts, choose a product that explicitly supports those jobs and shows outgoing text for approval. No voice command should silently inherit broad permission to speak for you.

The Pally option

The short version: text Pally

Pally is an option when your need extends beyond one Siri command. You talk to Pally through native texts, while a WhatsApp account you connect can be summarized, monitored for important messages, and used for replies that you approve. It can also send scheduled WhatsApp messages after you approve the exact draft, so the useful difference is ongoing inbox help rather than hands-free voice control.

Options

Other tools people use

Fair alternatives, including ones that overlap with Pally.

Siri

Siri fits immediate hands-free WhatsApp messages, calls, and reading unread messages on an iPhone.

It works one request at a time and can choose the wrong contact or transcribe the message incorrectly.

Shortcuts

Apple Shortcuts fits repeatable personal automations that combine a trigger with supported iPhone actions.

Available WhatsApp actions can change, and each shortcut needs setup, testing, and maintenance on your device.

Meta AI

Meta AI fits questions, translation, writing, images, and group-chat help inside WhatsApp.

It does not manage your other chats, connect to email or calendar, or send messages as you to another person.

Poke

Poke fits people who want to converse with an assistant directly through WhatsApp and connect other work apps.

WhatsApp is a channel for talking to Poke rather than an inbox it can read and manage on your behalf.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

What setting lets Siri use WhatsApp?+

Open Settings, Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri, Apps, WhatsApp, and turn on Use with Siri Requests. Also confirm that Siri is enabled and WhatsApp can access the contacts you want to message.

Can Siri read my WhatsApp messages aloud?+

Siri can read unread WhatsApp messages aloud. WhatsApp says opening the app resets the unread badge, which can make Siri report that there is nothing unread.

Can Siri schedule a WhatsApp message?+

The direct Siri integration is designed for an immediate request. A supported Shortcut or a messaging assistant with scheduled sending is a better fit for a message that must go later.

Why does Siri send an iMessage instead of WhatsApp?+

Include the word WhatsApp in the command and name the recipient clearly. If Siri still chooses Messages, recheck WhatsApp's Siri permission and confirm that the contact has a WhatsApp number.
