Problem-first guide
How to book a restaurant or appointment without calling
Last updated September 3, 2026
Start with the business's official booking page or a marketplace such as OpenTable, Resy, or Zocdoc. Enter your real party or patient details, review the cancellation terms, and save the confirmation.
If no useful slot appears online, send the business a message or ask an assistant to call with your preferred times and acceptable alternatives. Stay available if the office needs private information, insurance details, a card, or your direct consent.

A practical approach
What to do.
- 01
List your booking limits
Write down the date, time range, location, and the latest acceptable alternative before opening a booking site. For a restaurant, include party size, seating needs, allergies, and whether a nearby time works. For an appointment, include the visit type, preferred clinician, insurance network if relevant, and times you cannot attend. Decide which details are preferences and which are requirements. A broad window produces more choices, while a narrow window protects you from accepting a booking that creates another scheduling problem.
- 02
Check the official booking page
Open the restaurant or office website and follow its booking link rather than relying on an old search result. Check that the address, service, date, and time are correct before entering personal details. Read any deposit, cancellation, late-arrival, referral, or new-patient instructions shown during checkout. Online inventory can differ from what staff can offer by phone, so an empty calendar means the site has no listed slot for your request. It does not always mean the business has no way to help.
- 03
Use a focused marketplace
Search a restaurant platform for dining reservations or a medical marketplace for clinician appointments. Filter by the constraints that would make you reject a result, then compare the remaining choices on location, timing, and fit. Confirm that the marketplace is booking the exact service you need. A general consultation and a procedure can have different calendars, and a dining room table can differ from outdoor seating. Marketplaces are fast when the business participates, but they do not show every business or every slot.
- 04
Send one written request
If online booking fails, use the contact form, email address, or direct message listed by the business. Put the requested date and service in the first line, offer two or three acceptable windows, and include a phone number for the reply. Ask staff to confirm the final details in writing. This route works well when the request can wait for office hours. The trade-off is response time: a message may sit unread, and a scarce same-day table or urgent appointment usually needs a faster channel.
- 05
Delegate the phone-only gap
For a business that books only by phone, give an assistant the exact booking brief and permission limits. State which times may be accepted without checking, which questions must come back to you, and whether the caller may join a waitlist. Do not authorize a deposit, cancellation fee, or medical disclosure unless you understand what will happen. Stay reachable for identity or insurance questions. Afterward, require the business name, date, time, address, confirmation number, and cancellation terms in one written result.
The Pally option
The short version: text Pally
Pally can search for a restaurant, stage a web reservation with the real details, and show it to you before booking after your approval. Pally Max can also call a restaurant or appointment office when the useful slot is available only by phone. The confirmed outcome comes back to the text thread, including alternatives when the first choice is unavailable.

OpenTable
OpenTable fits restaurant searches where you want to see available times and confirm a table online.
Restaurants and time slots outside its inventory still require another booking channel.
Resy
Resy fits restaurants that publish their reservation inventory through its website or app.
Coverage varies by restaurant and city, and a full calendar may still require direct contact.
Zocdoc
Zocdoc fits people who want to search participating clinicians and book a listed appointment online.
You still need to verify insurance, visit type, and office requirements before relying on the slot.
Fancy Hands
Fancy Hands fits a phone-only restaurant or office when you want a human assistant to handle the call.
The business may require you to join for personal verification, payment, or medical questions.
Instinct
Instinct fits people who want to ask a personal AI assistant by iMessage or WhatsApp to take actions such as booking or canceling.
Access is invite-only during its free beta, with no published pricing after the beta.
Questions
Frequently asked questions.
Can I book a restaurant without calling?+
Yes, when the restaurant offers reservations through its own site or a service such as OpenTable or Resy. Check the party size, seating type, cancellation terms, and confirmation before you finish.
Can I book a doctor or dentist online?+
Many offices publish appointments on their own sites or through services such as Zocdoc. Confirm the visit type and insurance directly because the visible slot alone does not establish coverage.
Does a full online calendar mean there are no appointments?+
It means no matching slot is listed in that online calendar. Staff may have a cancellation list, another clinician, or times they release only through the office.
What should an assistant know before booking for me?+
Give the assistant your acceptable times, location, service, name, contact details, and any firm restrictions. State which alternatives can be booked immediately and which require your approval.
