dealing with your data

tl;dr

the only information we gather from your linked accounts is who you're connected to, and how often you communicate.

we do not access the content of your messages, and cannot act or post on your behalf.

introduction

we built pally to help you manage and cultivate your relationships. to do this, we require some minimal access to your data. this post explains what we access, and how we use it.

when you create an account on pally, you're asked to link your social accounts.

the only information we gather from your linked accounts is who you're connected to, and how often you communicate. that's it. from that point, we only use publicly available data to research them.

we do not access the content of your messages, and cannot act or post on your behalf.

access to your emails and calendar events

when you link your google account, we request read-only access to your emails and calendar events.

with this, we're able to request the metadata of your emails and calendar events from google. this metadata includes the recipients, attendees, date, and subject of your emails and events.

it does not include the body/content of the emails, and we do not read or store your conversations.

access to your social accounts

when you link your LinkedIn or X account, all the data processing for gathering your connections happens directly on your device.

this is excellent from a security perspective as our servers never have access to your account. only the list of who you're connected with is sent to our servers.

access to your whatsapp connections

this integration is coming soon, we will update this page once it's enabled.

access to your apple contacts, messages and calls

this integration is coming soon, we will update this page once it's enabled.

access to your instagram connections

this integration is coming soon, we will update this page once it's enabled.

data security

it's super important to us that your data is never at risk, whether from malicious third-parties or unauthorized internal access.

therefore, all data is fully encrypted during transit and at rest, and we carry out external security audits every year (last CASA Tier 2 audit successfully completed on 22nd June 2024 by TAC Security).

revoking access and deleting your data

you can revoke access to your social accounts from within the pally settings screen, or by deleting your account. when you do this, all historic data will also be deleted automatically from our servers.
